Affordable Manhattan apartments often leave something to be desired. (Lots of things, sometimes!) Many New Yorkers are willing to give up against that coveted central location. But you don’t need to sacrifice your comfort, and our Rental of the Week is a perfect example. This Yorkville 1BR has bright natural light from six windows, a spacious bedroom with double cupboards, a marble tile and a brand new kitchen – with a dishwasher. All for over $ 2K a month!
Address: 1748 Second Avenue # 4E
Price: $ 1,850
Best feature: A full gut renovation means this Yorkville 1BR is brand new in every way: the floors, the bathroom, the stainless steel kitchen appliances. (Including a dishwasher! Score!) It has six windows – two each in the bedroom and living room, and one each in the kitchen and bathroom – for amazing natural light all over the world. And its location on Second Avenue and 91st Street means it’s just a quick walk to the subway lines Q and 4/5/6 at 96th or 86th. It is also very close to the excellent suitable facilities at Green Asphalt and the whole culture of Museum Mile.
Why it is a deal: Yorkville is part of the Upper East Side, where the average asking rent is $ 2,750, according to StreetEasy data panel. That puts our Rent of the Week nearly $ 1K a month below average for the area, a deal in any book.
Greater disadvantage: As with many more affordable NYC apartments, this is a walk. And although the bedroom closets are quite large, they seem to be the only closets in the place. Fortunately, there is more than enough space for some creative storage solutions. Don’t miss the video on the list!
